The Mayor's Construction Academy
06 June 2018
Today the Mayor of London has launched his Construction Academy, which received £8m of LEAP funding. The proposal forms part of the Mayor of London’s Skills for Londoners Strategy, the first ever standalone skills strategy for the capital.
Through our Growth Deal with central Government, we have allocated £8 million to the programme, in order to help Londoners acquire the skills that they need to work in the construction sector. Construction employers, industry experts and skills providers have helped to develop the Mayor’s Construction Academy. A network of construction skills providers across the capital, the Construction Academy will work closely with employers in order to close the gap between the need for more homes and the skills shortage in construction.
A ‘quality mark’ for the Mayor’s Construction Academy has been created in order to find high quality skills providers. Through the £114m Skills for Londoners Capital Fund, £7.2m has already been reserved for quality mark accredited providers through the LEAP. This will contribute to the development of state-of-the-art construction skills training facilities.
