From container parks to pop ups, we are seeing an increasing number of ‘meanwhile spaces’ being used across London. ‘Meanwhile spaces’ serve as short-term solutions: landowners decide to open up a space, rather than hoard it, using the extra time to draw up permanent plans for the site or wait for planning permissions. With the amount of development taking place in the capital, meanwhile spaces may play a much bigger role in the tackling its affordability crisis. Centre for London’s upcoming partly-LEAP funded report will look at how and why we should scale up the capital’s meanwhile economy. Find out more about Meanwhile Space here.
Meanwhile Spaces is also being funded by Transport for London, Barking Riverside, Sutton Council and Peabody.
