Cllr Nesil Caliskan

Cllr Nesil Caliskan has been the Leader of Enfield Council since May 2018, when she became the first person from a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic background, and the first female, to be elected leader in the borough’s history. She was first elected as a ward councillor in 2015.

Cllr Caliskan’s administration has a strong focus on delivering more good quality and affordable housing in the borough for local residents, tackling youth violence, helping the borough’s young people achieve their aspirations, and investing in the borough’s town centres. A keen advocate of local government, Cllr Caliskan is working to ensure Enfield Council reduces outsourcing to third parties and brings more work back in-house so it directly provides services to those residents who rely on support and assistance from the local authority.

Before being elected as Leader, Cllr Caliskan worked for the charity and public sectors, including most recently for NHS England in the National Equality and Health Inequality Team. Cllr Caliskan gained an MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2012. She was born in Enfield and still lives in the borough.
